Time to call it a day – The SportingJournal

It’s been a great three years working on The SportingJournal. A small sports blog that begun for the fun of it quickly grew into a site with over 50 contributors worldwide publishing content regularly. We’ve achieved things that we never thought possible and has been a tool that has allowed us to cover sport all across the globe.

The London Olympics allowed us to soak up the amazing atmosphere, watch history before our own eyes and provide an in-depth coverage of the world’s largest sports festival. The World Cup a unique celebration of Brazilian culture, international football and friendship which we brought home through our football site; The TURF.

We’ve shared stories about the highs and lows of the AFL, rough and tumble of Rugby League, uprising fortunes of the A-League, victory and heartbreak in the ANZ Championship, triumph of le Tour de France and experiences of Aussies abroad in the NBA.

And we’ve loved every second of it.

As much as we hate to say it, it’s time to call it a day. With regret and excitement that after 3 years of publishing unique sports writing, The SportingJournal will be entering an indefinite hiatus. Much consideration has lead to the decision it’s time to close our doors, rest, reflect and begin to focus on the future. Like with any sports blog, there’s always challengers especially when competing with the big players in Australia.

I’d personally like to thank everyone who’s invested in this project; writers, photographers, businesses and most importantly you, the readers. It’s been an amazing journey and I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have!

So for now, it’s goodbye, but keep an eye out – you just never know what’s around the corner.

(Why not check out The TURF, our soccer site which will continue to operate.)
