The West Coast Fever will be looking to improve on their 8th place finishing in last year’s ANZ Championship. The Fever retained the bulk of their 2012 team, including international representatives Caitlin Bassett, Catherine Cox, Ashleigh Brazill and Eboni Beckford-Chambers.
The only two changes to the team were in the shooting end, signing Kate Beveridge, who played for the Melbourne Vixens in the 2012 season, and Lisa Millman. With ex Australian head coach, Norma Plummer, leading the team for the second year in a row, the team are looking in good shape to be top four contenders.
Today, it was announced that experienced Fever defender, Susan Fuhrmann, will be retiring from the netball. Fuhrmann has been in the Australian Diamonds team since 2006 and is one of Western Australia’s most successful netballers.
I see Fever as being the biggest improving team this year. The stability in their team, only making two changes to their 2012 team, can see a better connection between the players on court. Last season, they had too many changes to their team, which caused them to not link the ball down the court as well as the other teams in the competition. I think with a solid year of work together behind them, they could be pushing for a top four placing come the end of the season.
The Fever start their season against the NSW Swifts in Sydney on the 25th of March.
