EXCLUSIVE: McMahon Makes Comeback

Exciting news was released in the world of netball yesterday with the announcement of the return of netball legend, Sharelle McMahon after nearly two years out of the game.

McMahon was Melbourne Vixens co-captain and Australian Diamonds captain until she ruptured her Achilles in the 2011 ANZ Championship season, ruling her out of the 2011 Netball World Championships.

McMahon announced that she was expected to make her return to netball for the 2012 season, however late in the pre-season she announced that she will not be taking part in the 2012 season as she was pregnant. Her first child, Xavier, was born in August this year.

Sharelle EXCLUSIVELY told The SportingJournal today that she always felt like she wanted to get back to playing netball.

“It just didn’t sit very well for me to finish the way I did with my Achilles injury.”

“I think that I always thought I wanted to come back to playing.”

When asked about her aims for returning to the game, Sharelle said;

“My goal firstly is to get my fitness levels back, which will be a challenge certainly, but one that I’m looking forward to.”

“I guess the other one is to get back to playing some good netball and hopefully help the team win the premiership.”

Sharelle said she is excited to return to netball and is looking forward to being back on court with the Melbourne Vixens girls.

“I still love being a part of the team and I still love getting out there and playing.”

“I think I’m just most looking forward to the contest and getting back out there and being part of the team again.”

The Melbourne Vixens have now got their full team list for the 2013 season, with 7 new players in the team. The Vixens will play their first game to the ANZ Championship in Auckland against the Northern Mystics on the 25th of March.
