The latest edition of EA Sports FIFA franchise, FIFA 13 is easily the best sports game of the year, surpassing everything that we’ve ever seen from a Football Video Game. FIFA 13’s new features and realistic upgrades are something to be excited about.
The FIFA franchises’ aim to make the game as realistic as possible has taken a massive step up this year with the improved Game Play features in FIFA 13. The introduction of Attacking Intelligence has made defending more authentic. Players now will automatically stick a leg out to tackle a nearby opponent and the use his upper-body to retain possession. This has made the game flow more naturally, just like you would see in a real world Football game.
‘We like to maintain a balance to the game. So anytime we create new features in defence we like to balance this on the other side of the ball,’ Nick Channon, FIFA 13 Line Producer told The SportingJournal.
‘Changes we made to First Touch Control and the Player Impact Engine were balanced by the innovations we made with Attacking Intelligence and Complete Dribbling Attacking Intelligence creates a lot of new looks for you in attack, but First touch control makes you think about which is the best, and if you play it poorly, can create a lot more opportunities for a battle for possession and dispossession,’ said Channon.
Attributed with new First Touch control & Player Impact Engine, these new changes have been the most significant change FIFA’s Game Play.
‘Throw in the improvements to the effect of push and pull and the ability to use your body in defense, and it really feels like anything is possible in FIFA 13 on both sides of the ball, and I think that’s the sign of a well balanced game.’
Ultimate Team returns bigger and better. Ultimate Team has been given a new look with the launch of an improved web app and mobile application, making Ultimate Team accessible anytime, anywhere. Many new ways to play with friends if it’s on online season, tournament or even just playing a friend directly, EA has well thought through arguably their most popular feature.
Old favourites Head-to-Head Seasons (now named ‘Seasons’) and Career mode have returned, while he practice loading screens have disappeared to be replaced by a number of skill training challenges.
EA Sports Football Club which was introduced in FIFA 12, returns in FIFA 13. After undergoing a few upgrades over the past 12 months, EA Sports Football Club is now built into every aspect of FIFA 13.
‘We like to think of EA SPORTS Football Club as football’s social network, where over 11 million fans connect and compete with millions of others around the world. Everything you do in FIFA 13 is measured and you can level up by earning experience points,’ said Channon.
Players earn points for playing matches, achieving accomplishments and winning championships to go towards their chosen real world Football Club. Users also have the ability to see their rank compared to their friends and other players around the globe.
‘You can compare yourself to your friends and share accomplishments to determine who the better FIFA player is. This year fans can earn rewards to unlock items from the new Football Club Catalogue and build their status as they climb 100 levels.’
EA Sports has really gone out of its way to connect supporters all around the world to provide them with a real life Football experience.
‘EAS FC connects fans to the real world and all the drama and storylines it creates. Real-world storylines drive Football Club through regular challenges so that FIFA 13 will look, feel and play like the real-world season. Last year we challenged fans to replay or rewrite the ending to the EPL football seasons, and dropped fans into the final minutes of the QPR and Mancity Match to see if they could duplicate or change the outcome. Over 5 million games were replayed on that challenge alone.’
The voices of Martin Tyler and Alan Smith return, however don’t be surprised to hear their our of context excitement and cliché quotes.
Overall, FIFA 13 is undoubtably a must have for sports fans & gamers alike. The quality feel of the game along with the excellent game play and new features are unlike any other sports game we’ve seen for a long time.
